The five protocols

The code behind every good choice

  1. Fairness

Does this choice treat every person equally? Systems can carry bias. We notice it and correct it.

  2. Privacy

Personal information belongs to its owner. We protect passwords, locations and details, ours and others'.

  3. Truth

AI can produce convincing falsehoods. We verify sources before we believe or share.

  4. Kindness

Behind every screen is a person. We choose words and actions that help, not harm.

  5. Consent

We ask before we use someone's image, words or data, and we respect a 'no'.

The Final Firewall

In the story's climax, the protocols stop being separate rules. The Final Firewall can't be passed with any single skill. It asks the students to weigh all five at once and listen to their conscience. That's the lesson Code Quest leaves with every reader: technology can calculate, but only people can care.

  • Cybersecurity: protecting passwords and personal details
  • Digital citizenship: respect and kindness online
  • Responsible decisions: pausing to think before acting

EQ × IQ

How a quest choice becomes learning evidence

  1. 1

    Scenario

A fictional dilemma from the story, like an AI-edited photo of a classmate.

  2. 2

    Learner's choice

The student decides what to do next.

  3. 3

    Reasoning

They explain why, using the five protocols.

  4. 4

    Demonstrated skills

Choices show skills like perspective-taking, checking sources, and respecting consent.

  5. 5

    Adult insight

Teachers and parents see what was practiced and where to talk next.

Activity-based learning indicators reflect demonstrated classroom and quest choices; they are not standardized IQ tests, clinical assessments, or mental-health diagnostic tools.
